• The "Friends of Matenadaran" Benevolent Fund

The "Friends of Matenadaran" Benevolent Fund was created in 2001 under the patronage of His Holiness Garegin II, Catholicos of all Armenians. During the past six years, the Fund has implemented projects supporting the Matenadaran, Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. Altogether, these projects were worth nearly 120,000 US dollars.

The idea of founding this institution has a history of 40 years. In the 1960s, Academician Levon Khachikian, then Director of the Matenadaran, Syrian Armenian writer and public figure Varuzhan Salatian, Armenian American writer Zaven Syurmelian, Egyptian Armenian writer Sarukhan and a group of armenologists from the Diaspora initiated the creation of the “Friends of Matenadaran” Benevolent Fund in order to support the Matenadaran projects aimed at the preservation and enrichment of its funds.
