This is the most important of the mentioned series of publications.
It is foreseen to be published in 32 volumes. Detailed descriptions of Armenian manuscripts kept in the Matenadaran are given in it. The General Catalogue must be the handbook of every scientist interested in medieval Armenian manuscripts study, as it is very difficult to get information about the contents of thousands of manuscripts, to study and publish them without this Catalogue.
The first volume of the General Catalogue of Armenian Manuscripts was published in 1984 at the expenses of state budget. It became possible to publish its second volume in 2005 with the grant of the “National Union of Friendship France-Russia”, Geneva University and the help of armenologist Bernard Outtier from France, who is interested in Armenian studies. The third volume of the General Catalogue was published in 2006 under the sponsorship of Mr. Maxim Hakobjanyan, director of the Zangezour Copper-Molybdenum Factory, honored member of “Friends of Matenadaran” Benevolent Fund. The fourth volume is going to be published under the sponsorship of Armen Karo, Armenian benefactor form the USA.
Nowadays, efforts are made to publish the 5th to the 12th volumes. So Armenians living all over the world and foreign scientists will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the past and the present of Armenian scientific thought.
